Review of You're Next (2013) by Irvin C — 03 Feb 2014
"You're Next" begins as your standard slasher movie. What follows afterwards becomes way more than your classic home invasion horror. This is one of the bloodiest, funniest, scariest, smartest, most enthusiastic genre flicks in years.
Not only do director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett know what horror fans want, they pay homage to the 80's with intense kills, several perfectly orchestrated jump scares, terrifically suspenseful sequences, truly creepy killers with really creepy masks, a strong twist, and an awesomely 80's score.
But the main highlight of the movie is Sharni Vinson's performance as Erin. Vinson qualifies as the best final girl in years. She's sexy, intelligent, brave and violent to boot. Like "Scream", "You're Next" abandons stereotypical slasher movie tropes and goes for the jugular, leaving this viewer more than satisfied.
