Review of You're Next (2013) by Ben T — 07 Apr 2015
You're next is a movie that just got way more praise than it deserved. It was released in 2011 and critics loved this movie, I heard reviews saying this was one of theist original and best horror movies.
However when it was finally released in 2013 other critics said that it wasn't that original and overhyped. At the end of the day You're Next is just a decent horror movie that isn't really that original or new.
One of the worst things about the movie is the sloppy pacing. The first half and hour is dreadful, you don't care about any of the characters, it goes on forever and it's boring as hell. The second and third act however are pretty fun and entertaining but as I said earlier nothing that special or original.
The villains are ok, the masks aren't that scary and they're actually terrible at killing. The twist I saw coming a mile off, the twist that the three guys in masks aren't the only villains is so predictable and boring.
The acting is also pretty bad, there's some good peformance a here and there but for the most part the acting is pretty awful. The only character I actually liked was the main woman Erin. She was actually a really good actress and her character was legitimately badass.
The gore and violence are great, it's the reason people will watch the movie and it's amazing. The kills aren't extremely original but there are lots of kills and all the violence is really entertaining.
The second act is a really violent massacre and the final act is a very gory home alone. My favourite and by far most ridiculous kill involves a man get a blender rammed into the top of his head causing bucket loads of blood to fall down his head, it was stupid and over the top but awesome.
However a badass lead great violence and fun two acts doesn't make this a perfect movie because You're Next is far from being great. See it if you want but skip the first act. B-.
