Makoto Shinkai shines in this meteoric time-twisting romance of sorts in the vein of Il Mare, Love Letter & Frequency. Stunningly vivid animated visuals in true Shinkai fashion, with the contemplative pacing that is distinctively his -- this is a fatalistic disaster romance movie that would touch your heart with its struggle of hope amid mystery and (seeming) madness.
.. the younger sister's sanity in stark contrast, provides the most hilarity!
