Review of Your Name. (2016) by Yuri H — 24 Feb 2017
I went into this with a lot of hype, from people calling it equal to the likes of Studio Ghibli, to glowing reviews up and down the internet, so I went in with some high expectations. I was not disappointed.
What starts off slowly as a very mellow story of a girl in a quiet rural town and opens up into, what by all rights is an overplayed setup of seeing life differently thanks to a magical body-swap scenario, take that concept to a new level, and finds a way to make it engaging.
From very early on the characters held my interest, and as the story picked up, I found myself getting sucked into the world being built up in this film. By the end I was so invested that my heart was racing with every scene.
I forgot I Was sitting in a chair by the time the credits rolled, I was so engrossed in what I was watching. I have not had a film or series move me to tears in such a way as this for a very long time.
I would recommend Your Name to anyone that was willing to sit down and watch it. It truly does deserve to share shelf space with the likes of Spirited Away, and other Ghibli staples. Your Name left such an impression on me that even months later, just watching the trailers for hte upcoming english release has tears returning to my eyes.
