The film is a huge mess. They had a good idea for a movie but didn't execute it correctly. It needed a major rewrite. The film kind of reminded me of movies like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure and Just Visiting. Those films were better than this one.
Danny McBride was miscast in this film. He has no chemistry with James Franco or Natalie Portman in this film.I think Zach Galifanakis would have been better and funnier in McBride's role. Franco, Portman, Deschanel, and Theroux try to do the best that they can with the material that they are working with here.
