Review of Your Highness (2010) by Jonathan B — 16 Apr 2013
Lowbrow humor at its...err, finest?
***.
Maybe it's my love for Kenny Powers or my immature sense of humor, but I didn't find "Your Highness" as awful as I expected. It's textbook lowbrow comedy, which of course means it's not going to be meaningful and allegorical - it's going to be a farce.
But "Your Highness" isn't the painful sort of lowbrow comedy, because it provides entertainment. The story's been done before, natch. But the differing comedic styles of all the actors is enough to keep your interest, mainly because all the actors are so strong (in other roles, mind you, but still).
There's something to be said for films that were clearly fun to make. For me, I find them equally fun to watch. It's like watching an average little league game. You know you're not watching great baseball, but it's worthwhile to stick around, mainly because the kids are having a blast. So, why not enjoy some of your favorite actors making a movie together? That's why I can sometimes enjoy watching "bad" movies.
Call it a guilty pleasure, then. But it's totally worthwhile for a Sunday afternoon hangover viewing.
