Review of Your Highness (2010) by Ashley H — 29 Sep 2013
This movie is either intentionally brilliant or very, very lucky. I cannot believe this got panned. It ranks among one of my favorite movies. That said, I can understand how it would be a hit with everyone, but for me, a long-time player of Dungeons and Dragons and employee at the local Renaissance Faire, this movie is an uproariously funny satire of the inconsistencies one is bound to see when playing fantasy games with witty players or listening to improvised interactions from seasoned "rennies".
I've described this movie's script, quite accurately (if I may say so), as a thirteen-year-old's Dungeons and Dragon's campaign; picture a handful of prepubescents sitting around and playing a tabletop RPG none of them has a whole lot of experience with, making jokes about what's relevant to them (which would be dicks, boobs, farts, and smoking weed), and then have it acted out, seriously, by grown men and women.
It's like "Drunk History", but a fantasy movie. 5 stars - I recommend this to literally anyone who has played D&D more than once.
