Review of Your Friends & Neighbors (1998) by Randy L — 06 Jun 2009
Your Friends & Neighbors is a film that entirely consists of dialogue and intense character interactions. Jason Patric gives a performance that nearly blew my mind. He delivers his lines so perfectly and acts in such a realistic and breathtaking way. His character is so evil and perverted, yet I couldnt help but love him because of Patric. It's really a terrific performance that should have been nominated for several awards. Patric still remains highly underrated today. Aaron Eckhart is phenomenal here as well, and so is Ben Stiller. The two lead actresses, Catherine Keener and Amy Brenneman, are absolutely incredible. Besides Patric, Keener and Brenneman are the standouts of this film, but Patric completely rules the screen. Neil LaBute is truly a masterful filmmaker who brilliantly crafts each scene in a way that demands your attention. This film doesnt have a central plot or main focus, its mainly about adult human behavior at its worst and most complex. The performances are literally spellbinding. Jason Patric is so good, he'll take your breath away. Your Friends & Neighbors is a study of human behavior, and a damn brilliant one.
Jason Patric is an actor who clearly takes his work very seriously. He chooses his roles carefully and brings everything he's got to each and every one of them. Patric is an extraordinary actor with extraordinary abilities who deserves a lot more attention than he recieves. Jason Patric is a revelation.
