Review of Young People Fucking (2007) by Robin W — 06 Aug 2008
It was quite shocking earlier this year to see a film with this title playing on the screens of Canadian movie theaters, and it was not-so-shocking that the controversy surrounding it would be blown way out of proportion, leading to the temporary creation of Bill C-10 that was supposed to prevent funding for "pornographic smut" like this.
But despite the provocative title, the film is actually just a witty, dialogue-driven comedy with no explicit content, minimal nudity, and outside of one line of dialogue that deliberately pushes the boundaries of talking dirty, nothing particularly shocking (if you want to see some genuinely hardcore sexual content, watch the American equivalent of this film, "Shortbus").
As an actual film, it's often hit-or-miss, as there are some draggy portions and not all of its revelations about sex are particularly insightful or original, but there are enough genuinely funny moments to make it worth a watch.
