Review of Young Mr. Lincoln (1939) by Jeff Z — 13 Oct 2009
Pretty good John Ford fictionalized story about the young Lincoln's days as an attorney, defending two innocent men accused of murder. It has a lot of typical Ford touches, giving us a taste of the music and culture of the era and oddly enough, a rustic comedy sidekick who fortunately does not get a lot of scenes with Abe.
Fonda is really good as Lincoln and watching him in this made me wish he'd done a sequel or two as the older Lincoln. But I guess we're just lucky this didn't turn into a murder-mystery series like "Charlie Chan" where Lincoln solved a crime every film.
