Review of Young Mr. Lincoln (1939) by Jeff B — 12 Aug 2011
Henry Fonda _is_ Abraham Lincoln here. It's astonishing! But, the film's also got the most ridiculously loose courtroom scenes I've ever seen. If Lincoln really was this terrible of a lawyer it would really surprise me.
And, even though I abhor what Abraham Lincoln did to this country and what sort of a person he was, this movie seems to do a good job of capturing what he stood for and what sort of an idealist he was in his beginnings.
It's a lot like "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" in that sense.
