Review of Young Guns II (1990) by Jim M — 27 Oct 2009
Lincoln County, New Mexico, 1879: In the aftermath of the Lincoln County War, a new Governor Lew Wallace, is cleaning up the territory and arresting everyone involved in the receint Range war. When a pardon for Billy the Kid goes sour, Billy again rides with his old comrades Doc Scurlocke and Jose Chavez y Chavez, with some new friends Arkansas Dave Rudabaugh, Hendry William French and Tom O'Hoilliard, heading south they are pursued by Billy's one time friend Sheriff Pat Garrett.
Even better then the first this concludes the story of Emilio Estevez's meglomaniacal pyscho take on Billy the Kid (and even further twists actual history, most notably the presience of Chavez and Scurlock). Sutherland and Phillips slip efforlessly back into their roles, well Alan Ruck, Christian Slater, future CSI chief William Petersen and future LOTR star Viggo Mortensen all flush out the cast and add color to Billy meglomania. Also features a cameo by James Coburn looking as mean as ever, some great action and cinematography. A modern classic.
Trivia: Lew Wallace wrote the second bestselling book of the 19th century (after the Bible) later made into a Hollywood picture, "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ".
