Review of Young Guns II (1990) by Jj M — 29 Oct 2012
An underrated western from the Brat Pack era that has only gotten better with time. One of the rare sequels that did everything right that the original did wrong (get a great composer, Alan Silvestri, to replace the generic-synth tunes of the original with a true-western, sweepingly epic score; get a better director), and in turn make an entertaining, action-packed and humorous tale of some of the events in the history of Billy the Kid and his pals, and their escape from outlaw-turned-lawman, Pat Garrett.
The film isn't a historically accurate account of the situations leading up to the "death" of Billy the Kid, but the writers did do a surprising amount of research and actually got correct many of the facts. The open-ended conclusion is what leaves the film fresh and prevalent in the viewer's mind.
