Review of Young Guns (1988) by Sam R — 03 Jul 2009
When I was younger, I loved the Young Guns films. Seeing it now so many years later warms my heart, and out of respect I'm giving the first one 4 stars. What really holds this film up is Emilio Estevez and Kiefer Sutherland.
The rest (beside of course the seasoned actors Terence Stamp and Jack Palance) are terribly weak. That laughter from Emilio Estevez just sticks in your mind for the rest of your life - such craziness "I can make you famous".
Visually I remember these films to be somewhat groundbreaking. The cowboys were all of a sudden closer to real people. Here we have young boys wanting to be heroes, while just being scared teenagers being led by another insane teenager.
It can't end well, and it doesn't. Pleasure to watch, and definitely a classic!
