Review of Young Guns (1988) by Lindsay W — 24 Mar 2012
In some respects, it's an 80s wet dream with Estevez, Sheen, Sutherland and Phillips. In others it's a testament to all the horribleness of the decade, with conspicuous saxophone music (in a Western for god's sakes!), cheezy lines, and ludicrous plot propellants.
At times, it drove full force to comedy with strange gang interactions, the peyote scene, and the off-kilter serial-killer attitude of Billy the Kid. But the movie doesn't commit to it, and still tries to reign it back to seriousness throughout, like the documentary style ending, leaving the film in an awkward middle ground.
