Review of Young Frankenstein (1974) by Patrick M — 18 Apr 2010
So good its better than the original classic mary shellys frankenstein and bride of frankenstein at capturing the book.
Mel brooks has to be recognized for doing on great thing in his life, its rebirthing the horror comedy with this terrific comedy. It shows humor doesnt have to be crass and vulgar (although thier are a couple of smarmy moments). Maybe thats what I like about older comedies compared to new ones, they didnt have to be rated R to be funny or involve pot smoking at some point in the film.
While Abbot and Costello may have originated the genre and gave it fame, brooks brought it back to life with movies like these. Worth a double feature with the almight original Ghostbusters, if youve never seen eithier. My favorite Gene Wilder movie. In fact I daresay this is my favorite comedy film (ghostbusters ranking second) in both comedy and horror comedy.
