I think the key to making a great spoof, is that you have to like what you are spoofing. And that's why I think Young Frankenstein works so well. You can obviously tell that the filmmakers love Frankenstein films, and just horror films in general, by the way the jokes in this film are presented. This film is one of the funniest comedies I have ever seen in a long while. Featuring some really funny and memorable scenes, including the "walk this way" gag and the "Abby normal" joke, this film had a liveliness that made the film work. It was really funny, and even if a certain joke didn't work, the film just goes right on to the next joke, but since almost all of the jokes work, this because a hilarious film. The film is also very well crafted. The acting in this film is beyond average for a comedy, especially a spoof comedy (it probably helped the Gene Wilder was playing the main character). The film pays homage to classic Frankenstein films, and even if you haven't seen any of the old films, the film still works as a comedy. This film could make me laugh every time I watch it.
