Review of Young Frankenstein (1974) by Lanky Man P — 06 Apr 2011
From master comedian Mel Brooks comes one of his funniest and notorious movies.
Young Frankenstein is a parody of Mary Shelley's classic novel about a man who tries to reject the name of Frankenstein, but because of his family's fate, he begins to obsess in reanimating life. This movie is such a classic on so many levels. The script is absolutely hilarious, and with it's all star comedy cast this movie becomes a comedic masterpiece. Gene Wilder as the Frankenstein who wants to be called "Fraun-ken-steen", Marty Feldman as the cheery Igor, Teri Garr as the ever flurtatious Inga, and Peter Boyle makes an unpredictable and funny "Monster".
This movie would have been less impressive if it weren't for Mel Brooks. Mel Brooks is a man who not only knows good comedy, but he knows how to make good films. He recaptures the same gothic enviroment and filming styles as the original frankenstein movies, which just makes this movie all the more funnier. This isn't a regular comedy, but a well made comedy.
I love Mel Brooks's movies, and this one ranks as my favourite. Great cast, memorable lines, well structured story. This classic has a lasting appeal that will stay funny even after multiple views.
