Review of Young Frankenstein (1974) by D M — 16 Aug 2014
The best comedy/horror released during an especially dry period for the cross genre; the best of its ilk released between 1968 ("Spider Baby") and 1978 ("Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" & "Piranha").
Gene Wilder stars as a professor of medical science and grandson of the famous Dr Frankenstein. When beckoned to visit his grandfather's castle, he meets an attractive Teri Garr and proceeds to re-start his predecessor's work.
The locals are upset because they suspect he has taken to re-animation of corpses. A few of the scenes are direct parodies of the first 4 or 5 of the Universal Frankenstein series. Also be sure to check out Mel Brooks' other horror-comedy, "Dead and Loving It".
