Review of Young Frankenstein (1974) by William W — 03 Dec 2014
I adored this on TV growing up in the 70's, even before I had seen any other Frankenstein film, but now, seeing it on blu, it was even more wonderful than I had remembered. Teri Garr and Peter Boyle were big surprises for me, along with the usual outstanding work by Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn.
Mel Brooks' set pieces and directorial style were outstanding and paid homage very lovingly, getting things from the original Shelley 1818 text that even earlier Frankenstein films hadn't. Boris Karloff's daughter, interviewed, said that she loved it, and that her famous father had a great sense of humour and would have loved it as well.
The conclusion of an outstanding run of 3 masterpieces in 4 films for Brooks, unfortunately never to be equaled.
