Review of Young Frankenstein (1974) by Bradley O — 11 May 2016
This is Mel Brooks masterpiece. It features a lot of patented material from the Bride of Frankenstein, as well as, its own sense of humor and ambiance. The photography does a great job recreating the sense of the time from the classic films by James Whale, which has a lot to do with them having access to the same set pieces.
Gene Wilder is in top form as the mad doctor's grandson and Marty Feldman has never been better as the bulging eyed Igor. The great casting though does not stop there as it feature great bit roles by such greats as Gene Hackman, as the blind man, Kenneth Mars, as the mumbling inspector and, of course, we cannot forget the monster, played superbly by Peter Boyle.
The film all around features some of the most quotable lines in a comedy as well as a great dance number, who would have thought...
