Review of Young Frankenstein (1974) by Peter S — 27 Oct 2011
Young Frankenstein is easily one of the best parodies ever made. Almost 100% of its jokes are funny and it's very faithful to its source material, sending up various parts of James Whale's Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein.
It's also a tremendously beautiful black and white film, mimicking the look of classical Universal horror films. Gene Wilder is one of the best shrieking actors in history and his performance here is uproarious.
It's rare for a movie to have every single actor steal the show at one point or another, but this film does it. Even after decades of age, it's still as funny and timeless as its premiere, barely ever relying on topical humor of its time.
Mel Brooks is one of the funniest satirists ever and Young Frankenstein is an unmissable gem along with Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles.
