Review of Young Adult (2011) by Jiana W — 15 Sep 2012
This movie features a thoroughly unlikeable, pathetic loser of a protagonist. She has no particularly endearing qualities except, occasionally, her "I don't give a crap" attitude. And even that gets annoying eventually.
The end scenes (the chat between Sandra and Mavis particularly) make it seem like everybody else in the movie is the problem and not Mavis. Her antics appear to be confirmed rather than being called out for the ridiculousness that it really is.
The extra stars are really for Patton Oswalt who really surprised me here. He's sympathetic, endearing, and kind. I really enjoyed watching him in a role like this.
