Review of Young Adult (2011) by Sparky W — 08 May 2013
The film's protagonist, Mavis (Theron), seems like a horrible human being. She's a divorcee who is still hung up on her high school sweetheart who is happily married and she's bent on getting her ex back that she's ready to destroy their marriage. She's insecure, she's a mess, and she doesn't have a clue on what to do with her crappy life. And so she lets her self think that she and Buddy are meant to be and if only he'll realize that then everything will be better. Yes she is horrible. But by the end of the film you can't help but empathize with her, that there's also a Mavis Gary inside of you; that part of you that is insecure, clueless, and just unable to let go of the past and move on...
And props to Charlize Theron for her superb acting.
