It's not that Charlize Theron is bad, or even particularly unconvincing in the role of selfish bitch Mavis. With her flawless bone structure, glowing skin, and statuesque build I have just always had a problem believing her as down-on-her-luck at all.
To me she is more suited to playing ethereal creatures such as evil withces and possible aliens or whatever else she has played recently. Still, the movie was engrossing enough.
