Wow. This movie is kind of amazing. Diablo Cody does a great job with the script. Mavis is a total mess and we expect her to get her shit together and are frustrated when she can't. This film is fantasy but also quite genuine as we follow this mess through probably one of the worst times in her life.
Patton Oswalt is perfect in his role.
