Review of Young Adult (2011) by Mimi S — 29 Oct 2012
One of the reasons that "Young Adult" works is due to a provoking performance by the consistently breathtaking Charlize Theron (Patton Oswaltt is also a treasure to behold.) The film is not outstanding but serves its purpose.
Mavis is indeed unlikable, but the examination of her character is almost brave. The film forces us to understand her - and maybe on another level, identify with her. While the ending leaves a bittersweet taste on the tongue, there is a implication that the main character will sort out her life.
Or just finally start living it.
