Review of Young Adam (2003) by Cliff S — 08 Jan 2005
These would by my 5 WORST of the year so far.
I would have named 'Twentynine Palms', but actually, that film has kinda haunted me since. I still hated some things about it, and it didn't seem to go anywhere, but...yah, I'm not willing to call it one of the worst of the year. I also really hated 'Dogville', but it had good elements, and it wasn't quite the trainwreck 'A.I.' was, so I wouldn't put it here either. This year's 'A.I.' is definately 'The Saddest Music In The World'.
In other news, the 'Sideways' backlash appears to be in full swring. And while I'm at it, I just wanted to mention, no, I seriously doubt anybody is saying to themselves "Well, everybody else likes it, so I'm gonna hate it/say it's way overrated etc.", but that said, it DOES influence a lot of people's thinking, nomatter if they admit it or not.
