Review of You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010) by Tanja D — 05 Nov 2010
Something is certainly wrong with me, since I can't get tired of him. But there's a big problem with Woody Allen making movies in Europe. They are still so absolutely American and that seems hard to change.
We know all the characters and we've seen them so many times in NY environments. But there's something clownish about them this time. Gemma Jones is terribly overacting and so is somewhat also Anthony Hopkins. If it wasn't for Naomi Watts and Antonio Banderas, you would ask yourself if Allen is losing his grip as person instructor.
But after a while this comedy anyway is heading some dangerous depths and you find yourself really worried about what will happen to some of the characters. It's not so common in an Allen film, but you anyway have the feeling that he's finally over the peak and that this won't get much better in the future.
Perhaps it will be possible to get tired of him after all.
