Review of You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010) by Juan A — 25 Jan 2011
Easily the weakest Woody Allen film of recent years, absolutely nothing happens in this film which ranks as inspired, or even witty, or even remotely memorable. But, it's not a total failure. The score is fun, and Anthony Hopkins is very watchable, doing his best with a howlingly dull character - but he's surrounded by the miscast, the stilted and the screamingly boring.
The script is limp, repetitive and, really, pointless. It just goes around and around in circles, and it feels three times as long as it is. You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger doesn't know if it's a drama or a comedy, but it is devoid of suspense and depth, and contains not a single laugh.
Unless you're a Woody completist, please give this a miss.
