Review of You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010) by Danny B — 16 Jun 2011
Compared to recent Woody Allen fare like "Scoop" or "Whatever Works", "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" is a near masterpiece, but in the grand scheme of Allen's films, it's still just mediocre.
No relationship seems lived-in and the payoff is non-existant for every character. I realize that is partially the point of the film (the minor occurences that shape our destructive decisions) but I still feel as if Allen lazily writes the characters off at the end.
The women are the real stars of the film with Gemma Jones, Naomi Watts, and Lucy Punch giving fantastically subdued performances.
