You Were Never Really Here demonstrates extreme trauma and what that does to the psyche. Joaquin Phoenix plays a broken man named Joe who searches for missing children and murders those responsible with a hammer.

However, Those expecting a film like Taken or John wick may be disappointed. The action sequences are disturbing but serve as a reminder to Joe of his past. This is more of a character study that gives the viewer a first person perspective of Joe and his dwindling mental state.

Joaquin gives an incredible performance as usual and has several memorable scenes.
