Phoenix demonstrates that he is one of the great actors of our time. This is a brutal, quick-paced film with a lot of lurid material. Much of the violence occurs off-camera but there is little doubt as to its nature.
There is a lot to think of here and the director Lynne Ramsay really delivers.
