Review of You Only Live Twice (2007) by Nick A — 31 Jul 2008
Pretty disappointing. Begins on an interesting and original note, then becomes a little too ridiculous, even for Bond. This film's greatest contribution may actually be all of the details it provided for the Austin powers spoof; seriously, at least half of the jokes from that movie are derived from this Bond flick.
Perhaps for its time, before cheesy effects were cheesy, before all of these plot points were so cliched that they were spoofed incessantly, this was a thrilling and original spy flick. It certainly inspired the plots of several spy movies, unfortunately for the worse.
It's also unbelievably racist, perhaps comically so.
