Review of You Only Live Twice (2007) by Steve G — 24 Mar 2009
This movie really had highs and lows for me. It was one of the last Bond films starring Sean Connery and it was not one of his better performances. The story line was a bit choppy and didn't hold my attention well.
Bond's status as a stud who seduces every woman in sight was a bit overdone in the film and most of the special effects were bad, even for 1967. I was also disappointed in the rather unexciting role of Ernst Stavros Blofeld (#1 of SPECTRE) whose face we finally see after being teased for several movies.
For me the big highlight of the film was the ending sequence where Bond and an army of ninjas attack Blofeld's volcano hideout and fight his color-coded, jumpsuited henchmen. The opening sequence of the movie was also pretty clever.
If you're a Bond fan, by all means see the movie but so far it is ranked toward the bottom of my Bond list.
