Review of You, Me and Dupree (2006) by Jc E — 22 Jun 2010
If you cut out the unbelievable scenario and the gags that are overdone, then there is actually some funny stuff to be found in this film. Everyone knows someone like Dupree -- played by Owen Wilson (Marley & Me) -- except, those persons are not nearly as animated, clumsy, or unkempt as the person personified in this film.
There is some genuine chemistry to be had between Matt Dillon (Nothing But the Truth) and Kate Hudson (Nine), but it's squandered in lieu of antics and predictability. Plus, Michael Douglas (Fatal Attraction) is creepy in his role, and doesn't fill the role of antagonist very well.
It's got some funny stuff, and there's no denying Wilson's charm, but that can't help this film rise above the fray of formula and bad taste.
