Review of You, Me and Dupree (2006) by Keon G — 05 Oct 2008
I do have to admit that I splendidly enjoyed and positively inhabited the houseguest comedy "You, Me, and Dupree". Moviegoers also leeched on to the film by making it a box office hit. For those of you who have not crashed into the premise of the film, "You, Me, and Dupree" tells the tale of Dupree, a freeloader who gets evicted from his apartment and fired from his job so he temporarily moves in to his best friend Carl's home.
Carl and his wife Molly are newlyweds. So before you can say "C'mon Knock On Our Door, We are Not Waiting For You" , this "Three is not Company" tale becomes a slapstick farce due to Dupree's wacky ways.
He orders premium cable channels, overflows the bathroom toilet, and burns the living room area. However, what sucked about this "leecher" tale is all the supreme comical parts of the film were featured in its trailer.
This is another ill-fated example of the Hollywood studios showing us too much of their films in their previews or as I call it "trailer trash". Owen Wilson was quite stellar as Dupree. However, I did not have room for Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson in my "Good Acting performances of You , Me, and Dupree" list.
Dillon who plays Carl and Hudson who plays Molly were just crawling along with this one. Director siblings Anthony & Joe Russo did demonstrate some brotherly directorial love with some side-splitting scenes , but too many of them were handed over for advertising purposes.
"You, Me, and Dupree" was a comic delight but at times it overstayed its welcome. *** Average.
