Review of You Don't Mess with the Zohan (2008) by Esteban G — 28 Dec 2011
I was looking forward to Adam Sandler s latest film, You Dont Mess With The Zohan, which seemed really funny in the trailers. I really enjoy Sandler s films, but this has to be one of his weakest for me (along with Little Nicky).
The idea of the film was great and at some moments I laughed when the movie focused on the characterizations of the Israelites and Palestanians. The characterizations where hilarious at some points. But the movie didnt truely focus on this.
It had to many grossout scenes between Sandler and the old ladies. It seemed the movie shifted its focus on making fun of old ladies which I didnt find very funny as it was not very innovative. It repeated its jokes throughout the movie.
This film could have been much more entertaining if it continued to focus on the satire between Israelites and Palestanians and the forbidden love between his and Chirqui s character. The film just didnt work for me and I found myself disgusted most of the time rather than laughing.
This was far from Sandler s best works such as Big Daddy, Billy Madison, and Happy Gilmore or perhaps the jokes are just getting a little too repetitive for my taste.
