Review of You Don't Know Jack (2010) by Tom S — 23 Apr 2010
Pacino did some great work in "Angels in America" and "The Merchant of Venice" - but not since "The Insider" has Pacino given such a powerful performance serving a powerful and important story dealing with the ethical issues regarding euthanasia (in particular, allowing for peaceful death and preventing botched suicide attempts).
It's a wonderful, beautifully shot and cut, well directed film by Barry Levinson - his best since Rainman, the best film of the year thus far, though released exclusively on HBO. It could have been released theatrically except the controversial issue might have had trouble finding an audience and cause outrage.
However, though I support euthanasia I think this film would be enjoyable regardless of your stance because it doesn't force opinions, just presents a man who believed in what he was doing and lets you make up your own mind about him.
