Review of You Don't Know Jack (2010) by Gracie M — 30 Aug 2011
"You're not a local quack anymore... you're America's quack.".
For those that appreciate the themes prevalent in the stories and characters Al Pacino plays, this film will not disappoint. And the fact that he portrays an already eccentric character provides another layer of freedom to his general acting mannerisms; which I always find adorable.
Furthermore, after watching this film, I was compelled to look up several videos of Dr. Kevorkian online to get a more unfiltered, raw perspective of him. Having seen both characters, on film and in real-life interviews, I might go as far to say that this is one of the best "based on a true story" movies I have ever seen. (And I am usually very against dramatic interpretations of "true events.").
Despite the clear narrative this film has on the subject of euthanasia, I doubt it will bother anyone who is not credulously impressionable (or religiously fanatic).
"So if you're unconscious, they have the right to turn off the feeding tube and let you die. But if you're conscious, and rational, and begging for assistance to be allowed to die... we refuse.".
