Review of You Can't Take It with You (1938) by Bertina Y — 29 Nov 2007
First off, I must say that this movie was far, far better than the play it was based off. Speaking from my experiences with drama, that play was a walking nightmare, and I admire how the script writers fixed its problems.
Also, I am morally opposed to Frank Capra movies, so I'm always surprised when one of his movies manages to be enjoyable. The humor was this movie's selling point. Even 70 years later, most of the jokes in this movie are still funny, which is amazing.
The ending has the same ideological problem as the play--how rich do you have to be for that lifestyle to be practical? Regardles, enjoyable movie, well-performed, much better than the play.
