Review of You Can't Take It with You (1938) by Reggie C — 17 Dec 2009
You Can't Take It With You is one of those classics that should be watched by everyone, starring James Stewart and Jean Arthur.
Tony Kirby(Stewart) is the offspring of a wealthy family and the son of ruthless banker Anthony P. Kirby(Edward Arnold) who is determined to buy all the land surrounding him to build a munitions monopoly, but the only person who is not willing to sell is Grandpa Vanderhof(Lionel Barrymore).
Kirby, a good-natured person who has to take everything that comes with his family name, good or bad, that is until he meets and falls in love with Alice Sycamore, who is, ironically, Vanderhof's granddaughter.
A fun thrill-ride for everyone, You Can't Take It With You defines what it is to enjoy life without all of the stresses that money brings. Also starring Ann Miller and Spring Byington, I give it a 5 of 5.
