Review of You Can Count on Me (2000) by Kristal G — 09 Dec 2007
This is a movie that I have kept thinking about time and time again ever since I first saw it a few years back, and I finally just saw it again. One of my personal favorite screenplays ever. Natural dialogue capturing the essence and nuances of realistic conversation.
Great portrayals of extremely human characters, particularly by Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo as the sibling leads, two actors who never disappoint. An extremely sweet and poignant story, complete with a few chuckle-worthy moments.
This is the kind of independent movie that so many lesser independent movies strive too hard to be. To me, this movie represents an ultimate example of how you don't need a budget to make a great film.
