Review of You Can Count on Me (2000) by Cary C — 11 Feb 2008
Such a gentle but true film, held together not only by superb, naturally played and honest acting throughout, but also fine scripting and direction. A story about two grown up children whose parents died in a car crash years ago could have been heavy and dense to plough through, but this movie shines with tenderness and the truth that whilst people cannot always 'fit' together smoothly, they can still love each other.
Trauma may colour a lifetime, but here the colours have a persistent gentle radiance. A gentle gem.
