Review of You Can Count on Me (2000) by Bass 9 — 15 May 2009
Very compelling movie about a couple of brothers who must deal with the scars from their past and the fear of letting go. Laura Linney shines as a banker woman who is afraid of being happy, who does her best as a mother, and also wants to raise her grown up brother.
Mark Ruffalo is pretty good as an outcast, a person who wants to run away from his past, but the answer is that he must deal with it. It goes beyond the fact that tragedy connect us, and the movie explores the fact of helping each other via small details, such a smile, a look or simply a hug.
Strong characters change is very visual ways, and the confrontation scene between the two brothers is very, very good.
