Review of You Again (2010) by Troy F — 12 Aug 2011
You Again is a poorly written film, there's a start. I'll save the trouble of discussing the plot and say it's about a bunch of girls who hate each other at the start but like each other in the end.
Nothing wrong with that... if the development for such a transition was well scripted, but because the film is so inconsistent, the transition is made in a laughably dumb way. Like they forgive each other so easily.
The film is full of desperate humour all the way through and so predictable that it sucks out some of the entertainment from it, but let's face it, I accepted the film as it was and found some humour in it.
The jokes were certainly not hilarious, but I laughed a few times. Overall, as dumb as it was, I'm giving it two stars. Not every scene was dull and lacking humour. Hell maybe I bought into it out of desperation for laughs, who knows.
But my point is, somewhere amongst knowing its a poor film, I enjoyed a bit of it for that reason. Who said "bad" is necessarily "terrible"? It's badly entertaining in a sense really.
If you still think my rating is generous, I'd only go lower if the film left me completely bored or fucked in the head, but You Again just wasn't terrible enough for that. A poor comedy with little, and I quote "little" redeeming qualities if you search "closely" for them and make attempt to accept it as the lousy film it is.
