Review of Yojimbo (1961) by Chris V — 03 Mar 2008
It is impossible to watch this movie and not concede that Akira Kurosawa was, in fact, the man. The story itself has been lifted by so many other movies (though interestingly, this itself is an adaptation of a Dashiell Hammett crime novel -- who knew?), but it still seems fresh and brilliant here.
The fights are amazing, the cinematography (as is true of all of Kurosawa's works) is godlike, and dammit, the whole thing's just FUN (and that's something that's NOT true of much of the man's work).
So there you are.
