Forget the remakes. Hell, while you're at it, forget anyone who's ever tried to be a BAMF in cinema since 1961. Eastwood? Willis? Butler? Compare any of them just to Mifune's sidelong glance and occasional shrug and already you can imagine them finding excuses to be somewhere else.
This movie is a word that I would hesitate to grace Kurosawa's works with due to their elegance and craftsmanship, but here the word badass fits in with those adjectives effortlessly.
