Toshiro Mifune was an exceptional being, a monumental presence. If I could be anyone other than me, I'd wanna be Toshiro Mifune. In fact, I'd want to be Toshiro Mifune in this movie. Mifune hitches this ambivalent action tale (which would later provide the basis for A Fistful of Dollars) to his broad shoulders and drags the poor thing screaming along with him.
Oh, director Akira Kurosawa is awesome, too, but Mifune is the swirling sun at the center of this galaxy.
