More famous as the remake by Leone ("A Fistful Of Dollars") but this obviously is the original Samurai picture from Kurosawa made in 1961. Toshiro Mifune continues his muse duty for Kurosawa as the mysterious ronin Samurai who comes into town setting two rival gangs against each other.
People scurry about in and out of buildings through secretive entrances and the townsfolk look on in fear as they know something is going to happen. The fights are lightning fast and for the most part off camera.
Toshiro goes into a place the sound of extreme violence is heard a dog trots out carrying a severed hand in it's mouth.Then the epic showdown. The swordplay is observed as correct, usually one upward stroke, brutal and exciting.
..I personally think more watchable than "The Seven Samurai" but both great.
